new year's resolution.

I have not blogged in a long time but it does not feel right to leave this space empty until next year: here is my 100th and last post of 2014. I took these photographs a few weeks ago when it snowed in Helsinki for a weekend: I did not share them here before because I do not particularly like them but perhaps they would be ok for a pre-Christmas post like this one.

New Year's resolution for Passer Domesticus: I am going to choose quality over quantity. I might be posting less in 2015 but I will make sure to post only what I believe is truly worth sharing. I truly hope there will be many more travels and photowalks next year.

I do not usually feel comfortable on the other side of the lens but he knows how to bring out the best of me even in pictures. it was a cold but very pleasant morning: I wish we had more time for those lately!

I hope you all have had a wonderful start of December. Helsinki has been mostly dark but with a few hours of sunlight here and there. last Sunday we finally went for a walk and this time I kept on the other side of the lens: the photographs in the next couple of posts are all a courtesy of Jacopo.

bare trees and cloudy days do not make things very colourful so I decided to fix that with a very colourful jacket: I love my new Fjällräven Greenland Winter Parka in autumn leaf colour! ♥

just two more photographs I took towards the end of our photowalk on the wooden jetty in Lammassaari. I am very sorry to say I will not have any other photo to blog for a while: the weather has been horrible and I have been too busy for photowalks sadly. I actually took my camera out last weekend but the film roll turned out to be a total disappointment. I will be back here as soon as I will have something worthy to share: if you like you can check out my older posts meanwhile.

perhaps my favourites of all the pictures I took during my photowalk with Janika. the wooden causeway that connects Vanhakaupunki to Lammassaari is certainly one of my favourite spots and that day the light was absolutely spectacular. November can be surprisingly beautiful: there is always a sunset-like very romantic atmosphere. if only we had sunny days more often!

last Sunday the sun was finally shining after several cloudy days: it is so rare to see the sun light in November and that makes it even more beautiful and precious. I had already planned to go on a photowalk and I was so happy to be able to spend such a glorious day outdoors!

Janika came along since I had asked a friend to join me: we walked around Vanhakaupunkilahti enjoying the sunlight and some fresh air. I would like to have more of these photowalks with friends!

a few more photographs from that Saturday two weeks ago when the weather was beautiful and Jacopo and I visited Niskala Arboretum and had a lovely time despite the cold. I still hope we will see a few more days of sunshine before the end of the year: November has not been very generous.

the light through the trees I.

it has been cloudy and rainy since the 2nd of November. on Saturday the 1st though the sun shone brightly for the whole day: Jacopo and I went back to Niskala Arboretum to see the wintry light filtering through the trees. there is something truly magical about sunlight in the forest!

I remember that day with so much pleasure! I wish I could take a walk in the forest every day but after work it is already dark: these are the hardest months because I cannot be outdoors as often as I wish.

the last of autumn colours.

I took these about three weeks ago but it feels like months already: all the trees are bare now and there is not a single colour in Helsinki. that Sunday afternoon the weather was glorious and the trees were golden: Jacopo and I went for a lovely walk around Töölönlahti.

autumn is such a beautiful time of the year: I wish it could last longer! the snow has already fallen a couple of times but it has melted quite quickly and it has been raining basically every day since the start of November. I hope the weather is better wherever you live: have a lovely weekend!

petzval in black and white.

I had not been shooting black and white in a very long time and I had never tried my Petzval nor my Nikon F5 with a black and white film. we finally decided to take some black and white portraits a few weeks ago on a Saturday morning at the botanic garden. going back to my darkroom was a wonderful pleasure and I think what came out of it is quite beautiful too!

I had miss darkroom processing so much: I must take time to do it more often this winter! my Petzval has once again done a stunning job and I cannot wait to take more black and white shots with her! ♥

a walk in the forest II.

a few more photos from our walk in Niskala Arboretum: if you have missed the first part of this post you can find it here. I cannot believe I was wearing such a light jacket and no hat and still felt comfortable. I have been wearing my winter parka and woolen hat for a couple of weeks now and I will do so for many months to come: I am still very much Italian when it comes to winter clothing.

a walk in the forest I.

it is always a pleasure to go back to Niskala Arboretum! almost a month has passed since we took that walk and I am glad we managed to see it in all its beauty before the winter came. the trees are completely bare now and Finland has become very dark and colourless: November is near.

I already miss the light and the colours immensely: my 5th winter in Finland is about to begin and I already cannot wait for it to be over. I promise I will not stop my photographic excursions though!

zadie in helsinki III.

just a few more photographs I took with Zadie that Saturday morning around Helsinki: that day we really walked a lot! these were taken in Tervasaari and in Kaisaniemenranta: in the first two pictures Zadie is posing with the colourful buildings of Kruununhaka in the background.

unfortunately the weather was quite gloomy while Zadie was visiting Helsinki: the clouds did not stop our tour around town though. on a Saturday morning we visited Senate Square and the Market Square where we took some very touristic shots. I hope you will like them!
